What is ADHD?

Updated: Oct 31, 2023

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It used to be called ADD and ADHD; but a couple of years ago it was changed to ADHD, with three different sub-types. The sub-types are ADHD-inattentive type; ADHD-hyperactive type, and ADHD-combination type. Yeah, I know what happens if you don't think you are hyper; everyone gets the same 'H' in the diagnosis title. I don't get it either, but I follow the guidelines none the less. Do you wonder if all of the Tik Toks you have watched about ADHD mean you have it? A lot of people have ADHD tendencies, meaning some symptoms and signs of the disorder but that doesn't necessarily mean you actually have it. Lots of things can cause difficulty with concentration and focus-like anxiety and even depression. Confusing I know-I am here to help figure it all out. Where does it come from you ask?

Well, ADHD is a disorder involving the frontal lobe, which is also called the executive function area. Think about everything that an executive does behind a desk - that is what your frontal lobe is responsible for. Yes, time management and some forms of memory are controlled in the frontal lobe as well. People with ADHD often are deficient in one or two neurotransmitters. Therefore, your treatment depends on which neurotransmitter you are deficient in and there are many options! Don't want to do medication - there are still options and I can teach you how to organize yourself better, keep better track of time, focus your attention, and stay on task. I don't have a magic wand, but I do have a lot of personal experience in this area. I can't wait to tell you all about it!
